Re: Macbook battery life

Thanks for your comments Chas. You have reinforced the point I was trying to make, i.e. that the claimed battery performance is not reached under normal conditions of use. The battery lasts a very long time when not in use - far longer than the battery in my 2008 MBP. So that's in part why I questio...

Macbook battery life

As a point of interest, I used my 2016 refurbished Macbook Pro 13" at an event today. The battery was fully charged, and is claimed to give "up to 12 hours " service (or some such wording.) I was running a continuous loop slide show using FotoMagico software, and the computer shut dow...

MacBook Pro for sale

I’ve bought a refurbished MacBook Pro so have my old one for sale. It’s a 2008 model, 2.4 ghz, 200 GB, RAM upgraded to 4GB, very clean and has been trouble free. On its second battery which still holds charge for 3 hours or so. El Capitan installed. Asking $300. Bruce Whittington Ladysmith, BC bruce...

Mac image format

This is one of those beginner level queries. I often send image files to a colleague who is a professional graphics person and printer using PCs. He complains that images sent from Mac computers are always zipped, and have to be unzipped. In a test on my wife's PC I found that to be true. Can someon...

Transfer VHS tapes

I am pretty sure that this has been addressed in the past, but I don't recall the answer. Can I transfer some old VHS tapes to my iMac (OS 10.11)? I have an iMic that I used to transfer some old reel-to-reel audio tapes-will that work? If not, are there other options?

application memory problem

I received a message saying the "system has run out of application memory." This was after I tried to force quit Nikon View NXi (the poor replacement for the discontinued View NX2). The only other apps open were Mail and the Finder. I had been transferring a lot of files with a USB stick f...

Re: Update Notices

That probably explains Garage Band. I never use it (may have looked at it once or twice) so I have version 4.1.2. Still seems odd to me that I would be offered, along with all the usual free upgrades, one I would have to pay for, and not be told about the charge until after I had downloaded it. The ...

Re: Update Notices

Chas - I was away and missed your reply - thank you. I was getting these messages on the App Store site. I also get non-specific update notices that appear in the upper right of my screen. I checked the App Store tonight and the iPhotos and Garage Band updates are still there, though neither is show...

Update Notices

I upgraded my iMac from Mavericks to El Capitan (about 4 hours). Then there was a long list of updates to Numbers and other apps I do not use, which I dutifully accepted (several more hours.) What's left is a notice about two updates. One is Garage Band which I never use. The update is marked "...
