Internet Speed

Re. iMac OS 11.6
The Upload and Download rates are abysmal, to say the least.
Attached are two images; one is from my iMac and the other is from my iPhone.
Both are on the same wireless connection.
A Shaw technician was here yesterday and checked out the system. Nothing wrong.

What is it about the iMac whereby speeds are so slow?

Thanks,

Dick

It seems that "uploaded" images are either not uploading or are not being received … wonder why.

What is the overall speed of your internet conection (as measured by speedest.net)? Upload speeds on Shaw are always a small percentage of the dowload speed

How many people or machines are in use in the household? Are you using streaming services on a TV while trying to do this?

Do you have any "antivirus" programs like Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, etc crap like that on the machine?

At the moment my iMac will not connect with the Internet. The connection is via Wi-Fi. What a state of affairs this is!.I have looked through all the preferences and have done a restart. No change.

My connection at the moment is with the iPhone. Speed with it is very satisfactory being well over 300. As to the programs that you mentioned, Charles, I have none of those. As to streaming services, we are not using that. The only thing that is in use while I am on the computer or on an iPad is the TV.

Latest:
Spoke with techs at LD's Tillicum and Yates locations. Seemed like a good idea to place the iMac near the Shaw box and connect with an Ethernet cable. Did that. I think it was then that an app that had been trying to connect (no matter what I did in an attempt to stop it, including Trashing the app) finally DID connect and stopped trying. In looking at Preferences/Network, I found that the choice was NOT on "Automatic" but on some other "Location." Once put on Automatic, everything looked like it was back to normal. I then disconnected the Ethernet cable, etc., and carried the iMac back to its normal place in the house. First thing tried after hooking it back up again, was the Shaw speed test. WOW! This report is from a very happy boy! Dick (I trust that, this time, the attachments will upload.)

Again — no luck. The bottom line is that Download is 329.2 and Upload is 16.1 This means that, after many months of having this latest Wi-Fi modem, I'm finally realizing the benefit of it. Cheers!
