iOs update to 13.5 kills Calendar entries?

I have a number of recurring Calendar entries (set up on my iMac) for events in the future that I really want to be reminded about. For each event, I have an alert that pops up onscreen, as well as an alert sent as an email to me (in case I miss seeing the onscreen alert). These events are scheduled far into the future. This has worked well for me for years. My Calendar events are also synced to my iPhone so I also get the notifications on its screen. I recently updated my iOS to the new version 13.5 and then noticed I failed to receive an email notification for a recent event. I checked my Calendar entries and have found that there were NO future email alerts set up. I can think of no way these could have disappeared except for the iOS update that might have removed them from my iPhone and then via syncing, removed them from my iMac as well. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

It didn’t happen to me. You could try restoring your iPhone from a recent iCloud backup and try the update again.

I just did the macOS update tonight to 10.15.5 I noticed in the list of bugs it fixed was one were notifications from the Reminders app may have failed for recurring events. This seems strangely familiar with what was happening to me with the Calendar app. As I have gone through my Calendar for the coming year and re=established all the email alerts for recurring events, I will just let it go. I did send feedback to Apple however mentioning my experience. If you notice my reluctance to restore from a "recent iCloud backup" it is because I was lazy and didn't do an iCloud backup (or backup to my Mac) this time before doing the iOS update (in spite of the good advice that I should). Things generally "just work" for me so I got lazy. I would hate to restore my iPhone back to where it was when I last did such a backup unless it was really critical. Lesson learned!

For future reference: If you are using iCloud for backing up your iPhone, then backups occur whenever the iPhone is not in use, connected to a charger, and connected to Wi-Fi. Backups to the Mac are of course manual and have clear dates/times associated with them.

Ooh, just thought of something else you should check: look forward to the next event on your iPhone calendar that should have an alert, and open it to see if it still does have an alert. If so, check Notifications under Settings to see if the alerts for Mail have been reverted to something different than the notifications you were receiving before.
