Contacts Confusion

My wife recently decided to sort out her contacts on her iPhone. Went thru and deleted duplicates she had to try and get a working list. However she uses her iMac for printing off her address book and labels. When her "All Contacts" list was selected on her iMac all the listing within an "A" grouping for instanced were not in any order nor would they do so with selected options by first or last name. I discovered that all her iMac based ones were the ones in trouble because they all had a space before the surname and as soon as I went thru all her list and removed all spaces in front of first and last names things went into correct order finally. We had a discussion about the fact some of her contacts are showing as "on her mac" and others are in iCloud. When she now selects "All Contacts" on her iMac she is a happy camper. HOWEVER now she sees that not ALL of her contacts are on her iPhone. I assume this his partly due to the iPhone used to be backed up directly on the iMac and now she does her backups of the iPhone on iCloud coupled with her editing out contacts on her iPhone now knowing which one was iCloud vs on her iPhone with her purge.

So now she wants to have what she sees on the iMac "Al Contacts" selection showing on her iPhone too match. Seems reasonable however I do not know how to change all her contacts listed "on my mac" to be also showing as being on "iCloud" so they will be then seen on her iPhone?? Is there an option somewhere to click to have them in both places or is this a manual type all them over again into iCloud location? Thanks for any light that can be shed on this now family issue.

On the phone go to Settings. Tap on the owner's name at the top then tap on iCloud. Make sure Contacts is on.
On the Mac go to System Settings and click on Apple ID. Click on iCloud and make sure Contacts is checked.

I believe that should do it. Sometimes these things take awhile to sync.

Thanks for the information. I have checked both the iMac and iPhone and these are both "on" . As mentioned earlier the "iCloud" contacts are are correct between the two. The Issue is the "on my mac" contacts on the iMac need to be shifted over somehow to the "iCloud" group so this transfer can happen to the iPhone. This is where I cannot find directions on making the transfer just mentioned. The mystery continues. I should add these settings checked just now have not been altered so have been both turned on for a very long time on both the iPhone and Mac for Contacts.

Thanks for the drag and drop suggestion. Yes I did discover one brief reference to that on the Apple Site and did confirm it added the contact correctly to iCloud list. I had hoped there was a global method to do this for the 45+ contacts that needs to be moved. However we are now doing them by selection this way simply comparing the iPhone list with the iMac list both open and selected the needed ones to move. Working well this way. Thanks again for your reply.

Also- you CAN highlight them all at once (assuming they are in one 'group' in the On My Mac area).
Click the top of the 'list' and then, holding SHIFT down, go to the bottom of the list and click on the last contact your want. You can now let go of SHIFT.

Now all the contacts should be highlighted – click-and-hold somewhere in the highlighted area and drag the contacts into the iCloud area. [see rudimentary screenshot attached]Contacts.png

Thanks for reply. Problem resolved and all missing contacts now into iCloud and appearing on iPhone. Some minor cross checking was required but in the end all is now showing up as desired. Thanks to all who assisted with suggestions and methods to assist.
