Battery Charging Limit

As a listener of Tech Talk (thank you Alan), I went and looked at my iphone charging limit. I also referred to Alan's (thank you again) show notes for Oct 18 show. Item 22 references to stop using 80% as a carging limit. On my device, I have the charge limit at 100%. Then there is the Optimize Battery Charging. I have this turned on. Is this correct? I read the blurb underneath and I don't understand the "finish charging past 80%" part. Thank you for the help.

ps: I looked at the categories and I could not find a category that would be appropriate, sorry if this is the wrong spot.

Yes I use Optimize Battery Charging turned on. When I plug my iPhone 14 Pro in on my bedside table for overnight it changes over to the clock face as I want it to with the redish numbers and then goes off unless I pass my hand in front of it to wake it up and see the time. Often it will display a message it is charged to 80% and will finish charging based on my normal wake up time it calculates from my apple watch. It completes this last part of the charge early in the morning and is always 100% level when I unplug as I get up. Not sure if this answers your question or not but for me it works great. Colin

Limiting your charging to 80 percent all the time will extend the life of the battery over the long haul, but is probably best suited for people who are going to hold on to the same iPhone model for more than five years.

Optimize Battery Charging is the better option for most people. Batteries are consumables and regardless of what you do, you will need to replace the battery to get best performance if you hold on to that iPhone model for more than a few years.
