Buy a new remote or replace Apple TV box?

Hello. I see that there's a new style of remote with the Apple TV box, and I like the look (and theoretically the feel/functionality) of it a lot better than the remote I currently have. I have never liked the remote that came with the Apple TV box I bought in Sep 2020. We hates it, precious.

You can buy the remote separately for $80, whereas a new Apple TV box is $180 - $200 depending on wifi/storage choices. My current box is 2 1/2 years old. How long is the expected lifespan? If it's good for a few more years, then I'll just get a new remote. If not, I'll consider buying a new Apple TV box - provided it would work with my TV, which is a 2015 Samsung (not shopping for a new TV at this time).

We only have the Apple TV HD. We got it in late 2015 so about 7 ½ years! That should touch on the "expected lifespan" part of your question. Of course support for that one will probably soon disappear, but I will feel like we had our money's worth! If you do decide to go for a new one, I would suggest paying the extra $20 for the top model. Besides the doubled storage you also get ethernet capability on the top model. If you keep it 7 ½ years like I did, that works out to $2.67 a year extra!
