CD to iPhone

I have a CD of songs written by a friend of mine. I would like to be able to play the songs on my iPhone. I imported the CD to Apple Music and created a playlist of the songs from the CD. This new playlist is not showing up on my iPhone.

Terry, I assume you are on the latest iOS and macOS (for which I am providing these notes - may be slightly different in older versions.)
If you connect the iPhone to the Mac which (I assume) has the playlist, then open a finder window and in the sidebar under "Locations" click on your iPhone. In the resulting window click on the "Music" tab. Make sure "Sync music onto..." is checked. You may also choose whether to Sync "Entire music library" or "Selected artists... ...and playlists" is checked. Click on the "Playlists" tab and in the list below select the playlist you created and then hit "Sync" at lower right. When done, eject the iPhone and you should be good to go.

Thanks Dave! It is telling me to turn off Cloud Music Library. I can't find where to do this. Does it mean I should toggle off the Sync Library switch in the Music app settings on my iPhone?Screen Shot 2020-10-06 at 4.07.52 PM.png

Since I don't use iCloud Music Library, perhaps someone else will jump in with their knowledge on this.

Well, let's back up. Terry is apparently using iCloud Music Library, so the songs should turn up on your other devices automatically, as long as they are also using iCloud Music Library. So first step should be to check that your other devices also have Music listed as one of the items synced -- you can find this information on an iPhone or iPad by going into Settings, scroll down to Music, and see if "Sync Library" is turned on.

If the relevant devices are all using iCloud Music Library, the songs should just show up -- except they may be called "Untitled" because possibly your friend's CD is not recognized by iTunes, so it can't be identified. Apple's system will automatically label songs, albums and other information, but it only has info on albums that are sold by iTunes -- so it may not turn up until you manually edit the tags of each track of the album with proper artist/album/song title information in the Music app on your Mac and then give it time to sync that to iCloud.

But if you really want to, you can turn off iCloud Music Library by going into the preferences of the Music app, clicking on "General" and unchecking "Sync Library [your Apple ID name]." Then you must manually sync the songs/albums/etc that you want to be stored on the iPhone (where they will take up space, not like with iCloud Music Library).

Thanks Dave and Charles. The album did eventually turn up on all my devices. It just took a looooooooong time (as in over a day). I think I may have inadvertently quite Apple Music while the sync was still in progress. Sorry to have raised a false alarm.
