DVD/CD player wanted

Since our ~10 yo Apple dvd player running on our MacBookAirs died, I have not had good luck finding a replacement that simply works when plugged in. I tried several new ones but the software always seems to need fiddling in order to work. My wife was so happy with the old Apple one. She is not one to fiddle with software adjustments. She has a 2023 MacBook Air with a M chip.
Is there a good portable ( or even not portable) DVD/CD player that will connect easily and reliably to the MacBookAir? Thanks for suggestions.

I bought one of these USB connected Dell portable CD / DVD drives when I got my M2 Mac Mini and it seems to work well.
