Fusion Drive vs SSD.

I am planning to replace my mid 2010 27” iMac. I’m in a quandary wether to get a Fusion Drive, full SSD, or use a combination of external drive. I am not a power used but like to have many apps running and use some streaming investment software.
Any recommendations?

Fusion Drives use an intelligent combination of a small SSD drive and a higher-capacity hard drive. The frequently used stuff gets put on the SSD for quick launching, the stuff that isn’t so speed dependent (like music and photos) gets put on the hard drive. This combination offers large amounts of storage at a low cost. SSDs are more expensive and offer less storage, but are uniformly fast for everything — at least 10 times faster than traditional hard drives.

I've had a Fusion Drive for a number of months and am very happy with it so can recommend it to you.

If the cost isn't an object, I'd say go with full SSD -- so far they've proven much more reliable* than spinning hard drives.

*that doesn't mean you don't need to back them up -- SSDs very rarely fail, but when they do they are generally unsalvageable.
