Telus has already done so, though it's possible that less than 100 percent of their customers have been moved over to Google's service.

Shaw is likely to do something similar in the near future, but until they make a formal announcement it is impossible to say.

Pardon for being late to the party here, but Chas does this mean the loss of my Shaw email address? I’ve been handing it out for many years in classes I teach, would hate to lose it.

I think that this is unlikely, but it will all depend on just how Shaw handles it.

When Telus ditched handling email and handed everything off to Google they at least left subscribers email addresses untouched.

This will very much depend on a) whether Shaw actually does drop its own email service* and b) who they pick to replace the company that presently handles it for them. It hasn't happened yet and they'll likely give everyone a lot of notice, but you might want to develop (as everyone should!) a second email address with one of the providers that isn't likely to change (outlook.com, iCloud.com, gmail.com, etc) to fall back on, and start using it casually now.

*Shaw AND Telus were/are contracting out their email service to a firm in New Jersey for quite a few years now, which is why their service re: email is generally poor.

Also, by relying so heavily on a Shaw (or Telus) email account, you have put yourself in a position where it would be very difficult to change providers, not to mention the difficulty that can sometimes be an issue when you try to check your email when you are not in the area. While it is perfectly okay to have an email address provided by your ISP, you should ALWAYS make your main email address one from an international provider that is not going anywhere anytime soon to avoid exactly these issues. My email address hasn't changed in over 20 years, thanks to signing up for iTools on the first day it was available.

Thanks Chas. Over the years I have at times been tempted to change ISPs but have managed to conclude that the service I get for my money would not improve by switching to (Telus, e.g.) I’m not sure how long I’ve had the Shaw address, but it is 15 or 20 years. In any case, I do have alternate email addresses but my main concern is that some folks (who I do not even know) send interesting email to me based on me writing my address on the whiteboard and there is no way I can change the address they have for me. Naturally, if I lost my Shaw address I could send family and friends an address update, but even that risks folks sending to the old address inserted by their email program. Not to worry, que sera, sera, and I suppose in future I shall give out my Google address in class situations. Or just retire! Cheers.

I should add, the reason I’ve stuck with the old address is simply because it is my name, with no weird editing or numbers added. Got it the first day Shaw switched from ‘@home.com’ service and it has served me well.

New question:
After updating Catalina to 10.15.7 my Adobe Creative Cloud programs crash on opening. Any ideas of a fix. I'm needing to use them to publish Saturna Scribbler very soon.

I've replied elsewhere, but you need to update your Creative Cloud version to the current one. If you are already on CC, then this should be a non-issue. If you are in fact on the old Creative Suite as you indicated elsewhere, your options are extremely limited.

Chas. My wife purchased an Apple Watch for me, and it shows her name on the watch. I would like to put my name on the watch. How do I do this? Bill
