If you've gotten a new iDevice and you'd like some new apps to help fill it up, I've written up a huge number of discounted deals on apps for MacNN:

http://www.macnn.com/articles/15/12/25/ ... es.131800/

In addition, my colleague William Gallagher has contributed a "New iPad Users Start Here" guide, which is also available at the bottom of the article as a downloadable PDF for sending to friends or just for reference:

And he has also listed his personal "must-have" iOS apps:

(My list of must-have iOS apps appears on Tuesday)

I see TripIt was on the home page, I have used TripCase to create a file of all my flight, hotel, car hire, attractions etc. Moreover it's totally free as opposed to $40 that TripIt Pro costs annually (as far as I saw).

It includes alerts for flight gate changes etc and like TripIt, you simply forward your confirmation email to them and it is processed into your trip file automatically.

I'm using it for my trip to Montreal in a couple of weeks for a performance snow and ice driving course - can't wait!

I am really envious of your trip Steve,
It has been many years since I participated in "ice dices" on frozen Alberta lakes. Those skills quickly fade.

This will be very useful for your quick return home to Lake Cowichan after attending a VMUG meeting on a snowy night.

TripCase is another excellent app, but I should clarify the $49/year part of Tripit Pro (not $40). Tripit can be used for free for unlimited number of trips -- I used it extensively on my last tour. There is also an ad-free version which costs like $2 or $3 (that's the one I went for). The pro gets you some bonus features, nothing absolutely vital but nice -- find out if other seats are available, all your reward programs points in one place, and some VIP travel benefits. But trust me as MacNN's Traveler-in-Chief, the ad-free version does everything I really need it to do.
