How do I log into a @me account - I am helping a friend

My friend is setting up an ipad and iphone to work together. The Apple ID is the same on both now. BUT someone helped her set up her email an it is _____@me.com. When i go to set up her email on her new phone, I am not sure how to add the @ me account. When we look at her email, it seems the @me account is associated with her husbands gmail account? I know I am just not understanding how @ me accounts work. Can you help me understand this?

nnnnnn@me.com is just the same as nnnnnn@icloud.com

I may have the order wrong but in the past (prior to iCloud) Apple offered email accounts in the form of nnnnnn@mac.com
Later, (if I have the order correct) they then switched and started offering accounts in the form of nnnnnn@me.com
And finally they developed iCloud and now offer accounts in the form of nnnnnn@icloud.com

If you have one of the older @mac.com addresses, I believe your can use @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com interchangeably.

If you came along later and set up the account as @me.com, I don't believe you can use @mac.com but should be able to use @icloud.com interchangeably. But if you are more recent and set up the account as @icloud.com, I believe that is the only form you can use.

So the shorter answer is your @me.com is just a standard iCloud email account.

Dave has it correct. See my further answer to the username issue you mentioned in your second post on this topic in another sub-forum.
