iMac won't wake from sleep after updating to OS 10.14.4

After I updated to OS 10.14.4 a day or two ago, my late 2013 27" 3.2.GHz iMac with 24 mb RAM will not wake from sleep. The screen remains black, with a cursor arrow, which sometimes turns to the spinning ball, which sometimes stops spinning. In any event, I have to shut down using the power button, and restart. I tried running MalwareBytes, and Onyx maintenance, no change. I reset PRAM as that was mentioned elsewhere, without effect. Has anyone else experienced this with the newest OS update? Any suggestions?

Answering my own post: I also reset System Management Controller, no help. Then I followed instructions to reinstall 10.14.4 from the internet. I had to leave for several hours. When I returned, there was an ominous message on the dark screen, a globe with an exclamation point within a triangle, and the number "-2106F" and "apple.com/support". I shut down again (with the power button) and restarted. Everything seems to work now, and the computer has awakened from sleep several times, so fingers crossed. The one irksome thing remaining is that the startup chime is annoyingly loud, even though the sound button is muted. The mute button has silenced it in the past. I'll see if that changes tomorrow when I start the computer. (I shut down overnight).

More on this: iMac was waking from sleep okay, but Mail and Safari woefully slow (interestingly, on my iMac and my MacBook Pro). Mail showing it was downloading over 300 messages, etc. I shut down computer, router and modem, and restarted in approved order, and things are much better. Not sure yet if startup chime will still go off when I restart tomorrow. (I have always been able to shut it off in the past, and it is off on my newer MacBook Pro running High Sierra.)

There’s no need or reason to shut down the computer at night. Just put it to sleep. Problem solved.

After all the aforementioned steps, which together seemed to fix the problem of not waking from sleep, this morning, after starting the computer and checking mail, it went to sleep on its own, and went back to the old pattern of not waking from sleep, cursor arrow immobile, then turning to spinning ball, then no more spinning, necessitating a power button shutdown and restart. Has anyone else experienced this since the most recent Mojave update, or is anyone aware of discussions elsewhere about it?
