Image size in Apple Mail

Took a while, but I now see an option to alter the image size in emails. Does that affect only the size on my monitor, or on the receiver's monitor, or both? And is it physically altering the file size?

It is changing the file size by lowering the resolution so that you don’t fill up people’s limited mailboxes (like Shaw’s paltry 1GB total, for example).

It should appear to be around the same size on your monitor as the larger sizes, since most non-4K monitors offer only 72dpi resolution.

How big it will appear on the recipient’s monitor is entirely a function of the resolution they have set for their monitor.
