iOS Mail setting for trashed emails?

In macOS Mail there is a setting that determines how long a piece of email lingers once it is deleted (put in Trash) Mail Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviours with choices of Never, a day, a week, or a month.

In iOS Mail, I can not seem to find a similar setting. For people who have their email synced between a Mac and an iPhone, I would assume that the Mac setting will cover it. But what about people who only use an iPhone or iPad for their email? What determines what happens after you delete an email?

My wife has her Mac mail set to remove the emails one month after she puts them into Trash. They seem to be disappearing in a week. I am wondering if there is some setting on her iPhone (which I can't spot) that over-rides the Mac setting.

Oh, and I should have mentioned... iOS 15.0.2 Hopefully not caught in some early adopter situation.

I think it is an issue with iOS. A number of previous controls have disappeared In iOS 15.

In the meantime, and as a rule of thumb generally across all platforms: DO NOT trash an email unless you are 110 percent sure you want it gone for good, and ALWAYS assume it will be instantly gone forever.

OK, that last few words of advice are gems. Too bad you can't trust the settings always.
