iOS reboot problem

While coming home to the island on the ferry this morning, my iPad randomly started rebooting. a fellow behind me suggested I get the latest update, which addressed this issue for him. I am home now, plugged in and updating to 11.2.1, but the iPad keeps rebooting in mid stream. Seems serious, but as yet I'm not sure if it will claw it's way out of the problem or not. There is some info on the problem on the web, but my machine is rebooting so often I haven't been able to complete the download. I'll give it a while then the next step appears to be hooking up to my MacBook pro and using iTunes to download and install the software.
Just putting this out there -- it seems somewhat widespread. May be best to take the update before this problem manifests itself.

UPDATE later today: The update seems to have taken hold, through my MacBook Pro. All good. Whew.

FWIW, my iPhone 6 Plus, now running iOS 11.2.5, still sometimes spontaneously reboots, but doesn't get caught in a loop like the OP experienced.

In your case that might be an indication of a seriously degraded battery (there is only so much the management software can do if the battery is in really bad shape. As indicated in another post, give Battery Life a try and see what it reports: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/battery-life/id1080930585

I just mentioned the reboot at the end of a post about charging, but wondered if it was irrelevant. Perhaps it's not, and thanks for the suggestion here, Chas.
