iOS15 for iPhone 7+

Technically speaking, iOS 15 can be installed on iPhones all the way back to the 6S and original SE. Whether it will run it well is in question, I suppose.

It is available in Settings under the update function. I guess I should wait to see if people have a problem before installing it.

There have been a few updates already, fixing some of the initial bugs, and it is presently at 15.1
If you have been keeping up with the 14.nn updates then you don't need to hurry too much, especially if 15.1 doesn't offer any new features your really MUST have, but if you are farther back then that, you really should consider 15.1 for all the security stuff.

Thanks, I just installed the latest iOS 14, so I guess I'll wait awhile as I don't see anything I need in iOS 15.

There shouldn't be any major problems or slowdowns running iOS 15 on an iPhone 7, but for battery and other reasons (starting with "this is almost certainly the last supported OS for your phone"), you should probably be thinking about/planning for its replacement.

Depending on when Apple stops offering the latest version of iPhone for the iPhone 7, you only have two years beyond that to receive security updates. After that, the iPhone should be replaced for security reasons (and will be VERY VERY OLD at that point and likely suffering other issues).

I've had huge battery issues with iPhone SE first gen starting with the 14.1 update, 15.1 even worse.
That’s only partially due to the OS updates. The real culprit is that your battery is being asked to work harder and more efficiently, but it is also degraded and old. Replace the battery, and I predict you will see improved performance.

Or just get a newer iphone. My work phone is the 2020 SE and it was very noticeably faster than the iPhone 8 is replaced.

Thanks Chas,
Even though the battery Health is 91%? I have to recharge the phone several times/day as it drops to 1% very quickly & with little use.

So, in other words, the battery health isn’t really 91 percent. It has degraded to the point where the software algorithm can't accurately assess its state.

Get the battery replaced, or get a newer phone.
