iPhone 13 alert!

If you have ordered some flavour of the new iPhone 13 and have already received it you will find it is running on iOS 15 of course. Settings > General > About

But be sure and do a software update anyway. Settings > General > Software Update

When the new iPhone 13s were built they likely had an earlier flavour of iOS 15 installed, before the final tweaks were done before releasing iOS 15 to the masses. This earlier flavour seems to have weird bugs. My wife received her iPhone 13 on Friday and she found that when email was received she did not get the sound to tell her that an email had arrived. We compared all the relevant settings with my iPhone 11 and eventually used the Apple Support App to contact Apple. The person we spoke to went through all the settings again but didn't "twig" to this possibility. So when we checked it said she had iOS 15 installed but also said there was a software update available. We did that update and suddenly her incoming emails were making the correct sound to alert her.

Who knows what other strangeness she would have encountered without that update.

Dave (S): Be sure to do the 14.8 update on your iPhone 11 if you haven’t upgraded to 15 yet. Important security stuff in there.

I thought the message I was going to send would disappear when I opted out. Seems it went with no content. Anyhow, thanks for the tip. It's also interesting to note that the signature showing the current OS is backdated somehow. I actually was on 14.8--my signature was behind. Now I've done OS 15.

I was just going to say something about Friday and 13--perhaps best avoided.

Anyone else have an iPhone 13 and on the latest? (iOS 15.0.1) It looks like the problem has come back since doing this recent update. When my wife receives a Message or an email she gets no sound to notify her. That had been fixed after doing the update from the early version of 15.0 to the released version of 15.0 Looks like we will be contacting Apple again tomorrow.

Oops! Ignore that previous post. This time the problem was "user error". When the sounds disappeared we just assumed it was a similar issue to what was happening with the original version of iOS 15.0 and fixed by the "release version" of iOS 15.0. This issue seemed to reappear after the update to iOS 15.0.1 but as it turned out, it coincided with a class my wife took yesterday, during which she flipped the mute switch on the side of the phone. We were about to do a whole bunch of testing this morning before contacting Apple again, and the first thing I looked at was the position of the mute switch. How embarrassing. All is well.
