iPhone Screen Protector - Yes or No?

I have a new iPhone 14 Pro Max coming (just shipped today!). For my previous and current iPhones I got a screen protector, but I'm getting a lot of mixed messages about whether or not it's worth it or needed for the new iPhones. And if the answer is yes, get one, then which one? The $50 Belkin on the Apple site? The less expensive ones on Amazon? The mind boggles with the choices.

I used to use screen protection but haven’t for six or more years now. My current phone is four years old and rides in my front pocket, glass facing in, and is just fine. Avoid putting keys next to the glass etc.

Like Tim, I haven’t used a screen protector in years and haven’t had a problem. To me, a case with a bit of a raised lip is important for when the phone is placed face-down on a surface - and one with a bit of cushioning to help against corner drops that can crack the glass.

I have always used a screen protector. Most recently a good glass one, as opposed to the thin plastic type. I have dropped the phone a few times, and eventually the screen protector chipped. It was easy then to replace the screen protector on the pristine Apple glass. My son in law's phone had a severely cracked screen protector after drops but the glass underneath was still perfect. And in case you do carry the phone in a pocket with keys (as Tim warns about), the screen protector is really important. I have used Zagg products with success.

I’ve had a matte screen protector on my work phone and I love the matte finish under glare lights. My personal phone I do not have a screen protector on, because frankly it rarely leaves my pocket!

The IPhone glass is very tough, but the point of a screen protector is to sacrifice itself if something that could smash the actual glass happens, like a tumble down concrete stairs or some such.

I should add that I have Applecare+ so maybe that changes things…and that’s for another discussion!
