iPhone Xs flashlight

My wife has an iPhone Xs which she throws into her purse. Often she finds that the flashlight is on when she retrieves the iPhone from her purse, using up valuable battery life.

The iPhone Xs features the flashlight icon on the lock screen and we suspect somehow this is being activated when she puts it in her purse.

Is there anywhere in settings where you can remove that flashlight icon from the lock screen?

Sorry it took me a while to see this, Dave.

You totally can customize what's on the lock screen, and there's another tip that will prevent this from happening as well.

On your device, go to Settings -> Control Center -> Customize Controls

Now for the other tip: if you don't want to get rid of Flashlight on the lock screen (because it's quite handy to have it there), your other option is turn off "Raise to Wake," again found in Settings, but this time Settings -> Display & Brightness. This prevents accidental awakenings and means you have to either tap the home button or (in her case) tap the screen to wake it up.

Hi Chas,

Thanks for these suggestions... In the first case, I think going to Settings > Control Center and turning off the Flashlight item there will not only remove the flashlight from the lock screen but also from when the Control Center is accessed by swiping down from top right. Too drastic.

And my wife declined the offer to remove "raise to wake". She says she will live with the infrequent happening.

Oh well. we tried. :D
