Lost photobooth?

Hi everyone: Lovely day to all, enjoy it, I hear it won't last long. So I have a problem with Photobooth in fact I can't find it at all. After moving everything from the 2015 Monterey mac to a new Mac there are no photos in photo booth anymore. It opens normally but there re no photos there anymore. I didn't really use it much myself but my child did and there were photos on there from when he came to me as a baby. There were some on there that I would love to get back as they were wierd and not replaceable for sure. Any ideas why it didn't move over? Everything else went over but not that one. Thanks all Donna

Wow this got me thinking... Is Photo Booth even a thing in Tahoe? I remember playing with it when I first heard about it years ago and then forgot about it. So I found it still in my Applications folder, launched it and it showed me only two photos of my (younger) self. That got me wondering where it stores these photos. So I did a web search and came up with this:

The first few lines of this is the key. I went to my HD icon, and then to the Users folder. There I clicked on the folder for my account and then the Pictures folder there. Then right clicking on the Photo Booth Library there, I clicked on "Show Package Contents". Then I clicked on the Pictures folder there and it showed me a whole lot of my old test photos that no longer show up when I open Photo Booth now. But any of these can be just dragged to the desktop, or onto your Photos app icon to get them there if that is what you want.

But be warned! You might find gems like this. Happy Halloween!

LOL!

Photo Booth is still an app on Mac, at least as of Sequoia. My current Mac can't run Tahoe, so I can't tell if it is still present on more recent Macs.

Yes it's still on Sequoia for sure I am on 15.7.1 and the app is there. Problem was that the photos from the old mac photobooth didn't tranfer to the new Mac. So I could use photobooth but there wern't any of the old photos on it. I tried a bunch of stuff but to no avail, then I came up with the idea to try Timemachine. Went back as far as I could and Eureka! they showed up!! Pretty proud of myself actually not often something I try works out lol! But somehow this one did, and I'm so glad as I was able to get back old ones of myself and the boy, when he was really little. Would have been a shame to lose those. Thanks all Donna

I can confirm that Photobooth is no more as of macOS Tahoe. Before you upgrade, export any PhotoBooth pics you want to keep and then add them to Photos.

This is an edit of what I wrote last night! I was all set to argue on this one, Chas. I still have the Photo Booth app on my Tahoe 26.1 Mac Mini and I just launched it and took my photo using my third party camera sitting on top of my Asus monitor. Admittedly, most of my old experimental photos were missing but I covered how to get them back (if one cares) in my post (above) from October 30.

However, after a good night's sleep, I realize that what Chas was saying is that if you buy a fancy new Mac that comes with Tahoe already installed, there is likely no Photo Booth in the Applications folder. And in fact, I just looked in the App Store and it seems it is no longer available there for download either. I guess those of us who have it still installed from and earlier macOS version, can still go on using it but it is truly gone, going forward.

Why do I ever doubt Chas? :)

Upon further investigation, I have discovered that Photo Booth IS on my new MacBook, though I suspect that's because I did a transfer of my 2019 MBP's content.

All camera apps in macOS Tahoe (and presumably iOS/iPadOS) now have a new feature to go with apps that utilise the camera: Edge Lighting!

This brightens up a border around the screen to make you look better (or in my case, worse) without extra lighting!

Wow, so glad I checked the forum today, was thinking about upgrading over the Xmas break. Didn't realize that I may lose the old photobooth with the upgrade to Tahoe. Thanks Charles, though now I have probably a week of trying to figure out which ones to keep lol. The boy was photobooth crazy for awhile with both photos and videos, I am not looking forward to it. There are hundreds I am sure, maybe I can just save them all at once and put them in a folder or something then go through them over time? If I move individual ones into the library do the go by date they were done or ? Oh my, I bit off more than I can chew this time ! Wish me luck. Donna

What Chas was suggesting is that if you buy a new Mac that comes with Tahoe, you may well not get Photo Booth. But what we are finding is if you have an older OS and have Photo Booth already installed, upgrading to Tahoe will not remove the app. It does seem to affect what old photos Photo Booth will show you but as I mentioned above, you can still get to all your old photos.
