MacBook Pro can't find OS Catalina

13" 20012 MacBook Pro running OS Mojave, Version 10.14.6, can't find OS Catalina to update it. Running System Update says it is running Mojave 10.14.6 ands is up to date! Trying to get OS Catalina from the App Store doesn't work either, get the same message. HELP!

When you say "Running System Update" I assume you really mean System Preferences > Software Update. But my experience is that even when I know for sure that there is a macOS software update available when I first go to System Preferences > Software Update, it usually tells me that "Your Mac is up to date" at first. Then I let it just sit there for a short while and the message eventually changes to tell me what update is available. And I wonder if the present virus situation has made that response take even longer (Some other Apple functions have definitely slowed.) So try again and just sit at the dialog box for a while and see if it finally offers the update for you.

Yes, I did mean System Preferences > Software Update. It's now been running for 3 hours and still says Mojave is the latest update! thanks for trying.

An alternate way you could try is to go to the Mac App Store and search for Catalina, and try getting it that way.

That's what I tried first, several times. Just end up back at Software Update showing I'm running Mojave and am up to date!

And you are sure your MB Pro is a 2012? That was the cutoff for installing Catalina, I believe. Apple icon in menu bar > About this Mac

I don't see how that would affect the perceived date. When you do "About This Mac" I assume it reports the 16 GB properly which might imply the memory is working correctly. I think I am out of guesses.

When you go to the Mac App Store and search for Catalina, you should be taken right to a page that lets you download the installer. Your mid-2012 MBP can absolutely run Catalina, but be aware that if you haven't kept your other software up-to-date, a LOT of no-longer-supported or old software may break.
