Malwarebytes installation issue

Just in case this helps someone else... I finally bit the bullet and went for the paid version of Malwarebytes instead of running the free version on occasion,
I first removed the old version just in case. Then followed the instructions in the MWB package and when the installation of the application started, it then stalled showing "Installing Package Scripts..." and the progress bar halfway along. I opened a ticket with MWB to find a resolution but got impatient and started reading the user forums on their website. One guy hit on a bizarre solution that worked for him. He changed his user logon icon from the large photo he has chosen and replaced it with one of the little Apple supplied emojis. I thought this was nuts, but then other users said that tip had fixed their similar issues also. So I gave it a whirl and changed my user account icon from the photo I have been using to an Apple supplied emoji and the progress bar instantly continued and the installation completed. And when I went to install MWB on my wife's MacBook Pro I had to do the same fix to get the installation to complete there too!

That’s a really weird bug. Please do report that to MalwareBytes!

Yes, several people reported this on the MalwareBytes user forum and some MWB folks who visited that thread asked them for additional info like the type of picture format they used for their user account icon etc. I had already opened a ticket with MWB before I ran into this solution so I replied to that with details of my picture format (jpeg) and file size etc. I would love to know how the original guy who discovered this solution actually did happen on such a strange course of action for this problem.

Not exactly confidence boosting that the software ppl are relying on for security has such a current ‘fix’ to its OWN installation

MalwareBytes gets the highest recommendation from myself, Alan Perry, and Aitan. But no program is without the occasional bug — otherwise they’d never increment beyond version 1.0!

This bug has nothing to do with the security aspects of the app, and everything to do with an incredibly minor part of the account setup.
