Messages in iCloud

Shouldn't messages appear in iCloud if it is enabled in preferences? When I log into iCloud, there's no sign of Messages, nor does in appear on this list: When I try to sync messages on my MacBook Air, nothing happens. Once upon a time, I could switch between my Mac and my phone when using Messages and they were always in sync.

When I log into iCloud.com I don't see Messages. But my Messages are syncing between my iMac and iPhone. So I looked in System Preferences on my iMac to see how I have it set up. In System Preferences > Apple ID I looked at the list for Apps on this Mac using iCloud:" and didn't see Messages. But then I clicked on "Options..." next to iCloud Drive in the list and in the next box that popped up I saw Messages with a checkmark under the Documents tab. So back to iCloud.com and I looked in the iCloud Drive, expecting to see Messages there, but no sign of it.
On my iPhone, if I go into Settings and click on my name at the top, and then click on "iCloud" on the next screen it shows Messages with the switch turned on (green). Hope this is helpful to compare with your settings.

Thanks for the reply. I had followed all those steps, and my settings are the same. I see this morning that it synced overnight. I will watch to see if it's immediate like it used to be or if it just does it once in 24 hr. or something.

When someone sends me a message, it shows up on my iMac and my iPhone and when I open it on one device and look at it, the flag disappears immediately on the other device.

What you describe is how I was hoping it would work, and how it used to work. I didn't notice when it changed, but it was before the last OS upgrade.

As far as I am aware, there’s been no change to how Messages works or syncs in recent OS updates.

make sure that all the devices you want to sync Messages have that preference turned on.
