Movies and DVDs

The other day, I tried to play a DVD which was created in 1994. A Blue Ray player would not recognize it.

We have a Transcend portable USB DVD device connected to an iMac (10.15.3). The iMac wouldn't recognize the DVD.

An earlier iMac, running Sierra 10.12.6,, recognized the DVD but the "DVD player" app showed only the title screen of the movie.
It would not Play the DVD.

Would the software "MPEG Streamclip" app be of help here? Would like to get the info off the DVD and into some form whereby we can cut a new DVD and/or have the movie playable on an Apple TV.

Yes, MPEG Streamclip should be able to help. Be aware that it was abandoned several years ago, and does not work at all on Catalina. Still works mostly fine on Mojave.
