Hi Everyone: Well sister bought herself a new 24" Mac. She upgraded from a pretty old one that was stuck on High Sierra and getting grouchy. Now of course she needs the new hook ups/cords etc to make it work. Can you tell me what she would need for her existing ext hd and a printer and a iphone 11? I don't know the proper names of these things to help her. Thanks All Donna

My new 24" M1 iMac came with only USB-C connections on the back. I simply had to purchase a number of adaptors to that were USB-C male to USB-A female allowing me to plug in the older Hard Drives and USB printer/Scanner I had. As for the iPhone others will have to speak to whether I have this correct or not. I think that version of iiPhone used a lightening cable at one end and probably USB-A at the other.

Just as a side note I purchased from London Drugs a 5 port dock matching my computer (silver) with a variety of openings on it for the different older cable kinds and plugged that into the computer. Works great and very convenient as it sits right below the computer facing me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Colin I will pass this along to her. Then start thinking if I should treat myself to a new mac too! Donna

While not wishing to discourage anyone from buying a new M1 iMac as these things are AWESOME and GORGEOUS, I would just note that Apple is overdue to refresh the lineup by adding an M2 chip, so … if it were me and my own money, I’d wait until early June to see if Apple announces something near or at WWDC before buying.

Having said that, the M1 iMac is itself more computer than most people would need so if you are a casual user as most people are, you don’t have to wait.
