OCR software for iPhone

Thanks for the suggestion, Leeya.

I downloaded "ScanGuru" and tried it … it's a one-week trial.
It seemed cumbersome; it appeared that my use of the flat-bed scanner would be quicker and easier and that is what I ended up doing.

Now, I have today and tomorrow to CANCEL the ScanGuru subscription; otherwise, I will be charged automatically if that is not done.

However … I've been onto the Apple site and can NOT un-subscribe. A message comes up which states that "there is a problem."

Hope to get that solved …

Further:
The original intent was to capture the text of 66 pages of hard copy and reformat the text so as to eliminate huge amounts of "white space".

In the end (abandoning the idea of eliminating white space), the pages were scanned and the scans were copied over into a Pages document, That took a while.

Turns out that it took a while longer, too, having not realized that the scans were very large in size (bytes). Thus, the final PDF ended up at around 190 MB.

So I had to copy each scan into PixelMaker Pro and Export them from there as very small JPEGs. Those jpegs were then copied over (again!) into a Pages document.

The final result was a PDF of 34.3 MB - not too large a file for emailing.

The words, “Your subscription is expiring soon” are in red.
A button below that, with writing in blue, says, “Renew: $9.49/Week”.
Thinking that there may be a route to “Cancel” by pressing that button, I was tempted to do so.
However, not wanting to get locked in to a weekly $10-odd payment, I thought it better to leave that alone!
Guess it’s a case of wait and see if I ‘do’ get billed.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Regarding the subscription: that's outrageous! If you got this app from the App Store, cancel it immediately!
If you didn't, it may be quite tricky to unsubscribe, but you should check the website and try to, or at least report the unwanted subscription to your credit card company.

It doesn't sound like you used the "Live Text" feature built in to iOS 15 and 16. You could have:
a. Taken a good photo of a given page or spread, using your iPhone camera.
b. Open the resulting photo
c. Selected the text on the page and used "copy"
d. Pasted it into your Pages document, and
e. Repeat as necessary to get the entire text.

This would have resulted in a VERY small document yet be very high-resolution, since the document would be only text rather than images of text.
