old to new iPhone problem

Morning Everyone: Question please, just bought an iPhone 8, upgrading from a 5. Backed up 5 to computer and cloud just in case. Then transferred it all to the 8 via iTunes, seems to be ok. Going to pass the 5 onto my 4 year old for games and Utube etc. Want to delete the email acct and messages etc from the 5. When deleting the mails from the 5 they also deleted from the 8. If I delete the 5 entirely does that delete the 8 too? I am missing something obviously. I should always just pay someone to do this for me!! Donna

The problem here is that you're still actively using the 5 as logged into your various accounts as you ... and thus anything like photos, music, emails (basically anything stored in the cloud) is going to be deleted from all "your" devices. The proper way to go about this is to sever the "connection" by erasing and resetting the 5 to factory spec so it no longer has a connection to you and your various accounts, and thus can't affect anything you do on the 8.
