remote shutter control of iPhone camera

I am wondering if anyone has experience with the remote control of the iPhone camera shutter? I see apps on the iOS App store that let you use one iPhone to control the shutter of another = several choices but hard to know the pros and cons of any of these. Also a search shows little "key fob" sized devices that do this (with only the one iPhone needed). But whether any of these are available locally is the question. If anyone has actual experience with either method, I would like to hear your comments.

I've used my Apple Watch for this purpose, and it's marvellous ... you can "frame the shot" with the screen of the watch, and then get a short countdown before it tells the phone to take the picture so you don't look like you're fooling with your watch!

Is that a built in function (watchOS perhaps) or is an app needed to be downloaded? Since I don't have an Apple Watch that could be an expensive solution to a rarely needed function.

You probably already have a wired remote for your iPhone and didn't realize it. You can use the microphone button on the earpods that came with your iPhone to remotely trigger the camera. And if you have a spare pair (who doesn't have a spare pair of earpods?) and don't want to deal with the ear bits you can chop them off just above the microphone button as in the pic below…

Have fun… =)

It’s an included app on the Apple Watch.

Wow, you mean I could actually get some use out of all those earbuds (4 pairs) that came with 2 iPod Touches and 2 iPhones but never come out of the box? (I don't have Apple ears). Worth playing with but I hoped to perhaps trigger the shutter from farther away. Thanks for this reminder of an alternate way to do it.

You can of course still set a timer. Frame the shot, then set the timer and go get in it (I think the options are three seconds and 10 seconds). I'm pretty sure I've seen ads for third-party Bluetooth thingamabobs that will connect to the iPhone and trip the shutter for you.

I am not interested in getting in the shot, but using the timer to trip the shutter would eliminate my shaking of the iPhone at the instant the photo is taken, which might satisfy my needs. Thanks
