Stolen iPhone

My grandaughter had her iPhone stolen on Saturday, after searching the area where it went missing and not finding it her Mom told her it was still showing in the same location as she was, which was a club. However, no amount of searching found it so it was then marked as lost which is supposed to stop anyone from getting into it and also suspended by her service provider. She has now purchased a new one and has initiated the erase feature but that is still showing not showing it has been erased and that has her worried. Could the geniuses at VMUG give me something I can relay to her to assure her that nobody can access her Apple Pay, her bank info or pictures. She does now have her pictures on her new phone. she is so stressed out it is making her ill. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Kaye

If it’s in lost mode, then it won’t do the thief much good. If the phone is off or has run out of power, the status won’t update until it is plugged back in and/or connects to internet.

Thank you Charles, much appreciate the answer and you have confirmed what we found out after taking a half day to drive to the closest Apple store and talk with one of the guys in there. He also advised her to also not delete it from Find My Phone because if she did that then it would enable them to use it so now all they can do is use it for parts. She has now feeling much better and having less anxiety about the situation knowing they can't access her info. It hasn't moved from its current location for days and they have stopped sending her messages to which she never responded.
