Two Step Authentication Question

I decided it was finally time to move up to two factor authentication.

I set this up initially on my iMac and iPhone SE and then added my wife’s iPhone 6s as a trusted device.

I then went onto her MacBook Pro, and used Safari to log into iCloud.com. As now expected it asked me for a 6 digit verification code which it had just sent to me on my iPhone as a Message. I typed that in, and it then gave me a further choice.
1. Allow to log in this one time or
2. Consider this as a trusted browser and NOT require a verification code on subsequent log ins.

I chose option 2 whereas option 1 would make sense if I was using a hotel computer for example.

So all as expected as I learn this new more secure way of working with iCloud.

Next I decided to use my wife’s iPad in the same way as I used her MacBook Pro. (After all, we may be travelling and I might want to grab her iPad to reach iCloud.com through the Safari browser.)

However when I launched Safari on the iPad, and went to iCloud.com I was instead directed to a page that wanted me to set up iCloud on this device. As the iPad is not my device, (just as the MacBok Pro wasn’t my device) it makes no sense to go to Settings to configure iCloud for my credentials.

Why is the iPad as a portable computing device treated differently than the MacBook Pro as far as using Safari to reach iCloud.com is concerned?

Apple has never explained this to my knowledge. On the iPad, you have to use the iCloud Drive app.
