VoIP with shaw internet?

We’re planning on, (HOPING TO) trim our monthly Shaw bill by dumping our modest TV service, which we very rarely use, and also our shaw phone service, which we plan to replace with a VOIP service. I understand we can keep our household phone number and only pay a few bucks a monto for VoIP. Lastly, we plan to ramp up our data service from rock bottom to improve our bandwidth and reduce my occasionally bad “zoom meeting“ reception. If anyone has experienced these moves and has lessons to share, we’d be all ears. Thanks!

Shaw's telephone service IS voip. Telus' is being converted to voip. The "bargain" voip services are generally to be avoided, as they usually have zero customer service and often just ... shut down one day. You can transfer your home phone number to an iPhone either as the primary line or (if you have a iPhone XR/XS or later) as a secondary number using the eSIM.

I haven't had a "landline" in 15 years. We rely entirely on cell phones -- and yes they continue to work if the power goes out!

You should definitely talk to Shaw about this, and in particular about bumping up your bandwidth ... they are in the mood to make deals and stick Rogers with the locked-in price for a few years right now!

That is encouraging, about Shaw and getting a new plan! I run an iPhone XS but have one big consideration about routing our ‘home’ calls to my iphome… almost all of the incoming calls are spam. Spam — food for thought!

All the more reason to ditch the landline once and for all! Cell phones are seeing more protection from spam calls thanks to STIR/SHAKEN, a US technology that helps detect fake Caller IDs to stop spammers. It's not foolproof, and of course they've just gone to using the text messaging more because of it, but it's a start.

And while I'm on the topic ... if any of you receive any spam texts, forward them to 772-6, which reports it and helps get it shut down.
