Weather App location

I have an iPhone 11 fully updated. I live in the Cordova Bat Ridge area. When I use Apple's weather app, and select "My Location" it shows Victoria rather than Saanich. My wife's iPhone 10s, also fully updated, shows Saanich (just like mine used to some time ago) for "My Location". I suspect I have some setting wrong but can't think where to look. I have fully shut my iPhone down and restarted it, which often clears up such quirks but not in this case. Any suggestions?

Edit: Since posting this, I have tried turning off Location Services for the weather app and then back on and also force quit the weather app and restarted it with no improvement. Now back to duckduckgoing the issue.

I have Saanich as a location in the Weather app, as well as Victoria as a location. And then there is "My Location" which identifies as Victoria. All three give slightly different results. I also found out that the Maps app had "Recents" showing our street listed as Victoria and the wrong postal code, and our street listed as Saanich with the correct postal code. If I started to type our street name in the search field it came up with the Victoria variant. So I deleted both, and did a new search typing in the whole address (number, street, saanich bc) and it put the indicator in the correct spot on the map but did nothing for removing Victoria as "My Location" in the weather app. Perhaps 14.3 will fix it if I don't find a solution before then.
But heck, maybe this is what I paid AppleCare for. Time to phone those folks I think.

Apple couldn't help. They had me check all the settings they directed to me (no changes). The weather app still shows "Victoria" rather than "Saanich" for "My Location". Scrolling down in the weather display shows our correct street at the bottom. And the Maps app puts us in the correct place on the map. So I will ignore the wrong label and maybe the next iOS update will fix it. In the meantime, I am thinking of driving to Sidney to see what "My Location" displays in the weather app in that area. It just may kick it into behaving.

We drove to Sidney today and the weather app there showed "My Location' as Sidney. Drove home again and the weather app snapped back to showing us in Victoria rather than the proper Saanich. So I sat down with my wife's iPhone 10s and my iPhone 11 to pour over the settings and find a difference. (Both are on the latest iOS).
Here are some differences I noted - no explanation for any of them:

1. Settings > General > Background App Refresh
Up in the upper left corner is the back arrow (to reach the previous page.)
Hers is labelled "Back" while mine is labelled "General".

2. Settings > WiFi
My wife's iPhone shows my iPhone seen (with both phones side by side.)
My iPhone doesn't see hers.

My wife's shows "Other Networks"
Mine shows "Networks"

3. Settings > Maps
Background App Refresh is turned on on both iPhones (green button)
On my wife's iPhone that entire line is ghosted (lower intensity than other lines around it.
On my iPhone that line is not ghosted relative to the other lines around it.

I am at a loss to know why these two iPhones would be different in these areas. Perhaps a clue to someone else?

The weather app showing "My Location" on my iPhone 11 just snapped back from Victoria to (the correct) Saanich this morning with no action on my part. One of life's mysteries.

Good!

As for the differences in your phones:

1. My iPhone 8 shows "Back" while my larger iPhone XR shows "General." At a guess I'm going to say that's a screen-size thing.

2. You probably have "Personal Hotspot" turned on, and she doesn't.

3. I'm seeing the exact same thing on my two iPhones: the iPhone 8 shows "not ghosted) but the iPhone XR shows "ghosted" <shrug>

1, Yes, I think you are probably right about that.
2. While I have a hotspot configured on my phone it is currently set to "OFF" - Would that be enough to cause this behaviour?
3. "Shrug" seems to be the correct response. I will ignore it and use my brain to ponder other of life's mysteries.

And not only did my iPhone snap back to show "Victoria" (incorrectly) as "My Location" in the weather app today, my wife's iPhone also changed to show "Victoria" also. We were both in the car today and may have entered that strange place, so perhaps we need to drive to Sidney and back to get them back to showing "Saanich".

Possibly you don't have "Precise Location" turned on for the Weather app?

On any iPhone running iOS 14, you can control how precise your location is recognized. Try going into Settings, Location Services, make sure that's on, then scroll down the list of apps that need to use location data and click on "Weather" and toggle "Precise Location" if it isn't already on. Also make sure the "While Using the App or Widgets" option is checked.

I checked on my iPhone 6+ today and found the same issue, and I live north and west of where you are--almost to Central Saanich. I seldom use that app, preferring to check Environment Canada and the Hartland location.
