Weeding out an old email address

On my iMac I was recently posting an email to a friend. I typed his name in the "To" field and did not notice that it had filled in an old email address that he no longer uses. I had removed that old one from Contacts so knew it didn't come from there. In the Mail app I know to go under the "Window" menu heading to "Previous Recipients. I searched for his name there, found the old one and removed it. Done! (I thought!)

So the next time I went to send him an email I typed in his name and there was his old email address still being suggested under a heading "Siri Found in Apps". But no hint as to which App.

So next I went to the search magnifying glass in my menu bar and started typing in his name. This time in the left column I got the same cryptic "Siri Found in Apps", but in the right hand panel it showed his name, his old email address, a reference to FaceTime (don't think I have ever FaceTime called him) and message, call, video and mail icons. I have had a look when in FaceTime with no luck finding it. Have I been led down a garden path. Help please, weeding this out.

That could be a challenge to have the name interpreted correctly. It seems there's no way to type a question to Siri. I think Siri has a split personality. One responds to a limited range of verbal questions, the other noses around in your device and finds these arcane details, including, apparently, fragments from old stuff.

Actually you can type a question to Siri if you have visited System Preferences > Accessibility > Siri and checked the appropriate box. You may also need System Preferences > Siri to find out which keyboard shortcut will activate it. But "she" was no help to me in any case.

Make sure you have your Contacts synced across all your devices, so that the change you made to his contact card syncs with your other devices. Do a search using the old address to see if it is still stored somewhere, and if you have email stored from that contact that uses the old email address, it may still come up as being "found" because it is indexed. Also check carefully if there is a slight difference in the way the name is entered in the updated card versus the old one.

Thanks Chas, Contacts is synced properly, But I think you solved it when you said "Do a search using the old address". I actually did that in Mail and found I had some emails that were received from the old address stored in some mailboxes on my Mac. Deleting those seems to have solved it. Now I am no longer getting the reference "Siri Found in Apps". I will now consider that old address truly weeded out.
