Who has one?

In my recent travels, I was very pleased to interview the actor Ian McNeice, whom some of you might know from a show called Doc Martin, or HBO's Rome, or Doctor Who. He has an Apple Sport Watch just like mine! We compared notes on what we did with them.

This got me wondering ... I've met a couple of people who have Apple Watches, but if you have one, say so here!

Cheers

Hi Chas,

I bought one similar to yours a little over a month ago when I was in Calgary. Originally when the concept was announced, I was sure I would get one because I have a lot of watches and this one intrigued me. However, when they came out, the size did not appeal to me - even the smaller one seemed big to me. Up to the day before I bought it, I swore I wouldn't. I bought the sports band model (black) and I will get some other bands down the road. Would loved to have bought the mesh band one but just can't afford it right now.

I love it and find no down side to it at all. I am pleasantly surprised with the battery life - about a day and a half.

The size doesn't seem so big now and while they are more on the masculine side, the customizing aspect of the faces to match your activity or mood, is great and softens the look.

What I like most about it is I don't miss messages and phone calls that I did on the iPhone because I either didn't hear it or took too long to dig it out from wherever it was or that it was on silent mode.

One question - my phone is a 5s so it doesn't have access to Apple Pay - do I have to wait for the update to 5s before I can have Apple Pay on the watch (not that I will be using it much at the moment if it is only good for AMEX)?

Thanks.

Actually, you can add cards directly to the Apple Watch through the Watch app on an iPhone 5s, so indeed you (sort of) can use it! Of course at present they must be US-based cards or the Amex one, but I added my US TD Bank card to the Watch through my iPhone 5s and promptly used it all over the place! What's nice about this is that the card will continue to work with the Watch even if the iPhone is not present -- the 5s is only used to add the card to the Watch, not for anything else. The Watch uses skin contact to verify that its you (since you unlocked it with your passcode when you put it on).

Clever!

I'm hopeful that Apple Pay support will come to Canadian bank cards shortly, but my hope for it to happen this year is fading.

Thanks for this info. It's probably in the interests of the Canadian banks/cards to hold off until Christmas shopping is passed before giving their approval for Apple Pay.

I neglected to mention last time that my favourite feature about the watch is the Activity one - which is saying something for a couch potato like me.
