WiFi Calling with iPhone 14 ProMax

Hello. I have an iPhone 14 ProMax and I'm on the Rogers network. Despite the fact that I'm in a fairly populated area of Langford, my reception at home is terrible when I'm on the phone; many a phone call has been ended because the sound is always cutting out. Don't seem to have that problem in other areas of town, just at home.
I finally got around to calling Rogers about it, and the agent's solution was to activate my WiFi calling. However, my phone keeps turning it off and I don't know why. When I go to turn it on now I get the attached screenshot and the swirling circle never ends. Sometimes when I cancel that secondary window the WiFi calling is still on (sometimes not) but even if it's on when I back out, it will turn off again within an hour. Does anyone know what to do?

I would stop by a Rogers store and discuss the cellular situation with them first. You’re paying for strong cell signal, you should be getting it.

That said, some folks in Royal Oak were in the same boat because their homeowners’ association wouldn’t allow any cell towers in their area. Finally the school board overrode the HOA and a cell tower was built — and voila, people could use their cell phones in their homes.

Wi-Fi Assist, as it is now called iOS 18, doesn’t automatically turn itself off — mine’s been on for months and months, though it is almost never needed (it only kicks in if cellular reception is poor).

Other factors might be involved — metal “chicken wire” in the walls, for example, or your cellular plan not allowing for Wi-Fi Assist, or maybe you’re on the edge of the Royal Oak coverage area. Check the Rogers coverage map to see if that’s the problem.

The fact that this is problem ONLY when you’re at home suggests that the problem is either a lack of cell coverage where you live (HOA issue possibly) or that there’s a problem of “faraday cages” in your home (metal in the walls). If you have NO problem making and receiving cell calls when you are outdoors from your home, I’m inclined to say that’s a “something in your home” issue.

Thank Chas. I'm in Langford, along Goldstream Road between Jackelin and Leigh roads. I didn't think there is/was a cell problem in my area but I will go into the Rogers store out here. I had called Rogers and they activated WiFi calling on my account, just don't know why it keeps turning off. I'll start with them.

I’m a little confused by your reply, as Wi-Fi calling is a feature of iPhones, not of Rogers. It relies on the Wi-Fi in your house from your router, but you don’t pay extra for that to the best of my knowledge, and it doesn’t need “activating” by anyone.
