Blue dots won't go away in Mail

I have one Yahoo email address I use only for a specific forum I belong to. Recently, when mail comes in to that address, the blue dots in the headers won't disappear when I open the message. If I swipe the blue icon and switch it from "Unread" to "Read", that removes the message number from the inbox list under Yahoo, but does not remove the blue dot. This does not happen with any other Mail accounts. Is there some setting I am missing somewhere? Using Catalina and Shaw.

I am using Apple Mail and I'm having a similar problem since I upgraded to Sonona. Some mail messages retain the blue dot after they have been read. Also, I have a smart folder for unread messages. Before, when I had read a message it went out of that folder as you expect, but now although the blue dot goes away the messages stay in the Unread smart folder. Not so smart after all.

Forum messages are counted as "unread" if you have not read the entire thread. You can easily mark a thread's messages as all read by selecting them and choosing "mark as read."

Thanks for the reply Charles, but in my case it still does not work. Even if the thread contains only one message, "reading" it does not remove the blue dot. And toggling the "read/unread" window beside the message header does nothing to the blue dot, or (on my screen) the blue highlight on the message header itself.
