Desk top shadow area.

I wonder it this one will challenge our gurus?
The attached screen shot shows a screen shot of the top left corner of my second monitors screen.
Moving the desktop files does not eliminate, what I call a embossed looking "thingie"
If I restart it goes away .... but after a while it comes back.... I have not tried to make it happen
which might give me a clue as to what, when, why, & how.
Just thought some one would just know the answer to the wwwh!

That is certainly very odd. Do you have anything that runs at startup that's not part of the normal system (malware checkers, window arrangers, et al)? If you restart in safe mode, do you get the same effect?

Let us know. Thanks for the screenshot!

I restarted the puter and when I opened FireFox, there was a window that opened (Very briefly) on the top right corner of the computer screen. It happened so fast I was unable to read the message. Immediately the shadow shape showed..... Nothing else was open as per Force Quit or the apps in the Dock.
Then restarted again .... but this time nothing happen.... just opened without the issue showing up. Go figure

I will put my "I Spy" hat on and watch carefully during every move (operation) i make on the puter....

Stay tuned.

Sounds like it could be a failed "pop-up" or tracker in your Firefox browser, which is probably set either to a home page or to return to the last page you visited. Test with other browsers and see if you see the same issue, or check to see what (if any) homepage you have set and maybe set a different one to see if the problem can be replicated.

You might also consider doing a run of MalwareBytes free to see if you accidentally picked up some poorly-coded adware or something like that.

I could run MalwareBytes... but will wait to see if it happens again and be ready to grab a screen shot of the pop up window.
Interestingly the issue happened Sunday morning when the computer woke up.... and has not happened after a restart.
Thanks for the help.
