iPhone 12 mini cracked screen

Well, my fifth iPhone, and finally I dropped in on gravel and cracked the screen. And after never having any problems in the past as I treat them like gold, I foolishly decided I didn't need Apple Care nor did I get a screen saver. I did however, have an Otterbox on it but it didn't save the screen!! So, I went to London Drugs and the nice man told me it would be up to 400 dollars to replace!!! Imagine -- almost half the price. He suggested just putting a screen saver on it and keep it. I got him to install it for me and I get upset overtime I look at the screen. I phone Apple and they will not do a trade in until a year has past. So I'm stuck with it. Does anyone have an ideas? Should I sell it? What could I charge? I need some input. Thanks

Unfortunately, the resale value of the phone is going to be low. Cosmetic damage annoys people in some ways more than mechanical but invisible issues! I might suggest you talk to the folks at EB Computers in Fairfield Rd. but be aware this will void any other warranty. There's also a store in town called UBreakIFix you might investigate.

Thanks for the response Chas. I just bought it in January, so this one bites. Not sure I understand why talking to EB would void other warranty? I think the other warranty is the normal year one on a new phone. But, are you saying if they fix it that warranty is null?

I doubt they would actually take that on anyway, but yes. If an UNauthorised repair place repairs an iPhone under warranty, the warranty is void.

I didn’t notice before that our LD tech quoted you “up to” $400. If he put it directly that way, he’s giving you the worst possible scenario price — that the damage from the accident goes deeper than just the surface. It could be less once he gets ”under the hood” to assess.

It might be worth talking to Apple directly about this, but the prices may not be much (if any) lower to mail it to them, if they even offer you that option. Your other possibility is a bet: see if LD will give you an “assessment” price to investigate and come up with a firm estimate on what the repair charge would be exactly.
