Who has one?

In my recent travels, I was very pleased to interview the actor Ian McNeice, whom some of you might know from a show called Doc Martin, or HBO's Rome, or Doctor Who. He has an Apple Sport Watch just like mine! We compared notes on what we did with them.

This got me wondering ... I've met a couple of people who have Apple Watches, but if you have one, say so here!

Cheers

Hi Chas,

I bought one similar to yours a little over a month ago when I was in Calgary. Originally when the concept was announced, I was sure I would get one because I have a lot of watches and this one intrigued me. However, when they came out, the size did not appeal to me - even the smaller one seemed big to me. Up to the day before I bought it, I swore I wouldn't. I bought the sports band model (black) and I will get some other bands down the road. Would loved to have bought the mesh band one but just can't afford it right now.

I love it and find no down side to it at all. I am pleasantly surprised with the battery life - about a day and a half.

The size doesn't seem so big now and while they are more on the masculine side, the customizing aspect of the faces to match your activity or mood, is great and softens the look.

What I like most about it is I don't miss messages and phone calls that I did on the iPhone because I either didn't hear it or took too long to dig it out from wherever it was or that it was on silent mode.

One question - my phone is a 5s so it doesn't have access to Apple Pay - do I have to wait for the update to 5s before I can have Apple Pay on the watch (not that I will be using it much at the moment if it is only good for AMEX)?

Thanks.

Actually, you can add cards directly to the Apple Watch through the Watch app on an iPhone 5s, so indeed you (sort of) can use it! Of course at present they must be US-based cards or the Amex one, but I added my US TD Bank card to the Watch through my iPhone 5s and promptly used it all over the place! What's nice about this is that the card will continue to work with the Watch even if the iPhone is not present -- the 5s is only used to add the card to the Watch, not for anything else. The Watch uses skin contact to verify that its you (since you unlocked it with your passcode when you put it on).

Clever!

I'm hopeful that Apple Pay support will come to Canadian bank cards shortly, but my hope for it to happen this year is fading.

Thanks for this info. It's probably in the interests of the Canadian banks/cards to hold off until Christmas shopping is passed before giving their approval for Apple Pay.

I neglected to mention last time that my favourite feature about the watch is the Activity one - which is saying something for a couch potato like me.

My wife purchased an Apple Watch for me, but her name appears on the watch. I would like to put my name in the watch. How do I do this? Bill

I have a Series 4 (with cell capability). However, I left Telus to go to Shaw Mobile and so lost the cell service, but haven't really missed it, as it does soooooo much else!

It would be interesting to see what faces/complications people tend to use most. Mine is the Infograph Modular face with ECG, HomeKit, Activity and Weather complications. Oh yes, and Time and next appointment.

Mine is also the infograph face with date, calendar, temperature, activity and battery level.

My kids got me one this year for Father's day. My son, daughter and son-in-law each have one, and they didn't want me to feel left out. My daughter especially likes the fitness tracking, and I've become rather addicted to "closing my circles" daily, though not today--too hot.

I never would have bought one for myself, but it's fun and I enjoy having it. I generally use this face: IMG_0731.jpg

Wife treated me to Apple series 6 with Cel for my 75th recently. Chose the Aluminum Grey one and it came with a black sport band. Lots yet to learn and getting used to the larger 44mm size unit. Tried and returned a third party band thru Amazon which was the same colour but SS with the magnetic closer. (Not sure how it can be fully stainless steel as SS is a non magnetic metal !) Guess you get what you pay for with these. It constantly came loose as I moved around and did yard work. Did not separate just slipped along the strap like the magnet was not strong enough to stay in one spot. After my first frustrating day with it I gave up on it. Returned it and got a black elastic fabric one for now. This one is great so far,( will see if it stretches and gets loose !!). Not an elegant band like the SS matched one at all, but functional and as advertised, it does breath so no sweaty wrist problems which is just great. Charging every morning while getting showered and seems to be around 75 used by that point in time. Not sure if should wait until lower, the schedule just seems to work this way and allows me to wear at night for sleep monitor ability. Had it connected to my existing cel number with Telus and costs an extra $10 per month on my cel bill for this service along with its own 1 GB data the plan says. Telus had an offer I found doing research with her for $500 for this model and it seemed worth the extra at that point to get this model. Faces is a work in progress with 6 chosen so far of which 5 have a normal clock face with hands and second hand moving which I know is old school but I like that. One is a digital readout. All have weather, battery and mix of phone, message, health, voice memo and activity for testing out. So no fixed selection yet on this feature. Have managed the phone answer twice now when my iPhone was not with me so must say, nice feature when working outside. Gave up taking iPhone out when mowing with the lawn tractor as never could hear or feel it in the available pocket of my coveralls. Never thought I would say this but it is growing on me quite quickly. Might even weaken and try the pay option with a credit card if I can figure out how it works to pay with it. Yes I did get a card added now after much soul searching about doing this. However for some reason when I press the home button on my iPhone 7 somehow (the wrong way I guess), the bank card shows up which worries me if it is so easy to be seen. Trying to figure out how not to have that happen now on the iphone. Still thumbs up for this Bday gift for sure :)
