youtube and private videos

Morning All: Hope you are all well and looking ahead to better times. Need some direction re youtube and private videos. I have been sent a video on youtube from my childs therapist but I can't seem to open it. I get the screen with the red open button but it opens only to a black screen that says "this is a private video"
Just so you know I seldom look at youtube and have never posted anything there, I have an account (I think) as the green dot appears with my initial in it when I open it up and the only acct is a google one. The sender sent it to me first by email to my shaw acct and then said he sent it again to the google one, but so far I haven't been able to open the darn thing. I am pretty sure that he knows how to do it so it must be something that I am doing wrong. Is there a setting that I may be missing? Or perhaps a trick or a step that I don't know? I tried looking at google for answers but the same stuff is repeated over and over and it hasn't helped me at all. I am sure it's something that I am not doing but what it is, is beyond me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Donna

If the video is set to private (as would be exactly appropriate for a therapist to do), then you have to get the therapist to add your google email address as having permission to view it.

He told me he did resend it to the google email acct but maybe he got it wrong? I'll ask him to check that he to the address correct. Thanks Chas

It's not a matter of where he sends it, it's a matter of authorizing specific people to be able to view a private video. Typically a private YouTube video is only able to be seen by the person who uploaded it (him in this case). He can authorize other people to view it by signing in to YouTube Studio, selecting "Share Privately," then adding the email addresses of those who he wants to be able to access the video.
