Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray review: a place for everything, and everything in its place
Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray
4.0 / 5
Keep your gear topped up and your favorite items in one place with the handy Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray, featuring MagSafe charging, Qi charging, and a bonus USB-C port.
If you’re like us, you probably stuff your iPhone and AirPods into your pockets, purse, or bag before leaving your house in the morning and decant them somewhere at day’s end. However, unless you have a dedicated place for your gear, misplacing one of your much-loved items is pretty easy.
Courant’s Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray aims to fix that. It features multiple ways to charge your favorite gear in a handy tray that keeps all your everyday carry items in the same place.
Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray – design
The Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray is designed to be a clever little catch-all to drop your iPhone and AirPods off at the end of a long day. It features a raised MagSafe charging pad that keeps your iPhone securely in place and a Qi charging pad to charge a second device or a set of AirPods.
In addition to the two charging pads, there’s also an extra USB-C port, which we found useful for charging our iPad. It’d also be a useful way to keep your AirPod Max charged.
Around the edge of the tray is a lip designed to keep all your assorted goods from falling off. That makes it an excellent place to unload your pockets or purse at the end of the day. We personally love using this tray on our nightstand to keep our lip balm from rolling onto the floor.
Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray – materials and build quality
We were pleasantly surprised with how well-made the tray felt. It’s nice and heavy and doesn’t feature any moving parts, so it feels like it should last a long time with normal use.
The Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray is available on a couple of different surfaces, and we deliberately picked the Belgian linen finish because it looked nice on our nightstand. However, with all linen finish products, we don’t suggest using this in an area where it might come in contact with a lot of dirt.
If you’re going to be using it on your work desk or kitchen counter, we highly suggest snagging the premium pebble-grain leather, which can be easily cleaned up with a dry cloth.
Mag:3 Classics Device Charging Tray drawbacks
While the tray is about as close to our ideal catch-all, there are a few drawbacks to be aware of. The biggest is that there is no spot to charge an Apple Watch, so if your bedside space is at a premium, you might want to look elsewhere.
Additionally, we should point out that the ridge around the charging pads will collect dust and debris. This is doubly true if you unload your pockets or dump your handbag onto it at the end of the day. We caution potential buyers to avoid dropping too much lint or granola bar crumbs directly onto the tray and occasionally use a soft-bristled cleaning brush to sweep around the ridge.
We’d also be remiss not to talk about the price tag. If you opt to snag the Mag:3 Device Charging Tay in linen, it’ll set you back $150 — and the leather version comes in at $200. This is pretty steep compared to other multi-device chargers on the market.
However, because the build quality seems pretty decent, we’re comfortable saying that it should be viewed as a quality-of-life upgrade and an investment in your space.
Who the Mag:3 Device Charging Tray is for
If you’re the type of person who likes to have a dedicated space for all their essential, everyday carry items, it’s hard to beat this little tray. We like the design, and the ability to keep our iPhone, iPad, and AirPods charged and ready to go in one place is fantastic.
Furthermore, we personally think this would be a great gift for Valentine’s Day, Father’s or Mother’s Day, or even a back-to-school gift.
