Connecting DSLR to MacBook Pro

Running Ventura 13.6.1 on 2017 13" MBP. Currently in Brisbane, Oz and need to back up photos. There is no SD card slot and the Canon Utility software, for whatever reason, is not opening. Bought an adapter (USB to USB-C) at the Apple Store. The camera DSLR LCD shows a computer icon when connected and turned on but the Finder does not show a connection in the same manner also occurs on the iMac. Have checked all camera MENU options and System Settings for a solution, with no access.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be most appreciated.

One area you might look at is the ImageCapture app. There is a little icon that might appear at the bottom of the sidebar on the left that lets you set what to do when a camera is connected. It is been a while since I used this and my memory is weak but that may give you somewhere to look.

Buy a USB-C camera card reader from any electronics/computer store there. Not expensive, and will save you a lot of hassle.

Thank you Dave and Charles. I am not sure if it is the right way, but did find a way. With the camera cord connected through the USB-C adapter, open Preview, then File/Open from Camera and Select All or selective photos to Import and it provides also an option of where to Save the image files. Appreciate you getting back to me.

That works, but I think you'll find (if you are using a direct camera cord) that the built-in Mac application Image Capture is made for exactly this sort of transfer.
