iTunes bogus purchase

Received a very legit looking email from iTunes Store this morning stating several purchases and asking me to click a link if they were not authorized. I have not purchased these items. Do I just delete or forward this to an Apple fraud address? Attached is a screen shot.

Thanks G

There are essentially two possibilities: one is that your account has been compromised, and the other is that the email is completely bogus. The "sender" address would suggest it is bogus, but there's an easy way to be sure: check your purchases in iTunes. If they are are there, then your account password has been compromised.

We have received a number of these bogus iTunes Account billings and I spoke to Apple
about it....they would appreciate any one to forward the billings to the following address then
delete it.

Re: iTunes bogus purchase; credit card fraud

I too have received this bogus email, which I promptly deleted. The grammatical errors indicate that it is a phishing attempt.

However, I (and Apple) have been targeted by fraudsters in another way. This is a cautionary tale for all of us who have credit cards and buy from Apple: don't trust your credit card company!

My credit card was used in early January to make purchases on the "Apple Online Store Europe"! No idea how fraudsters got the details to use, but I had been using my card a lot this past fall. Almost all such usage was using chip readers, which according to MasterCard should be totally (????) secure. MC suggested the fraudsters used a random number generating program to find the card numbers. Anyhow, MC caught the charges immediately as being 'unusual', locked my card, and phoned me. I spoke to their 'fraud department' and all seemed to be well taken care of; new card issued, fraudulent charges disallowed, no charges to me. I checked with Apple by phone and online to assure that my Apple account had not been compromised; it hadn't.

So, just received my MC statement, with the 'deleted' fraudulent charges now authorized and me being billed for them! Rather upset!! Most of yesterday on phone with MC; from denying that I had ever contacted them about these charges and having no records etc. etc., they finally decided that it was a slip-up. After much argument it was after all possible for them to find the original contact records, relabel those charges as fraudulent, and modify the automatic debit settings so that only the amount I actually owe will be deducted from my checking account. Then the settings will revert to the original. Their excuse for not following through with deleting the fraudulent charges (and then approving them!) was that 'merchants' usually bill them for the money within 3-4 days of the transaction; since this was an Apple transaction, and Apple (in my experience) does not debit the credit card until they actually ship the goods, their charge did not go in for about 10 days. The 'fraud investigator' had apparently decided after 3 days that the merchant had cancelled the transaction and didn't do any follow-up, instead cancelled the so-called 'investigation' and closed the file; but left the fraudulent charges as 'pending'. They were then transferred to my new credit card and allowed by MC, despite supposedly having been marked as fraudulent and disallowed!! I will certainly be watching to ensure that this time they actually have done what they claim! posting.php?f=8&mode=reply&t=86&sid=0f018c7773149952d33bc3ba606a0446#
