Naturally some people will assume I’m biased on this point, but myself and others have really questioned the people CBC relied on for their report. To be clear, I have a very high regard for CBC’s reporting generally, but as a former Apple tech (and someone who has checked around with other Apple techs), the conclusion we’ve reached is that the people with the “damaged” Mac:

A. Probably bent that internal pin themselves (since there’s no other way it could be bent except at the factory, in which case it would never have worked)
B. Deliberately set off the water-damage sensors (and informed their third-party fixer in advance to ignore them).
C. Are known to be aggressive “right of repair” advocates who have a history of an agenda against Apple’s repair policies.

In short, the Apple store in Toronto was set up, the CBC misled, and the techs acted absolutely in line with proper Apple procedure.
