Buying a new printer

Hi all,
My printer is nearing the end of its life and I'm looking for a replacement. However, the cost of the ink cartridge is a major concern. My Brother printer has served me well but the cost of a replacement cartridge is over $100 and does not seem to provide the life expectancy it claimed. Has anyone found a good quality printer (non-colour and no photos) that has a reasonable cost for replacement cartridges? The cost of the printer itself is reasonable but they more than make up for with the cost of the ink and I'm tired of paying the outrageous on-going cost esp. when it does not seem to live up to expectations.

For non-colour and no photos, I'd suggest a B&W laser printer. The replacement toner cost is also in that range you mentioned, but has to be done FAR FAR less often (in typical use, a few years rather than a few months ...)

Took your advice and went for the B&W laser printer. Sorry it took so long to respond. Had some dental surgery that set me back for a while. Thanks, David.
