email Port numbers

I need to know how to find the mail port number ... It may be the issue I am having with mail that is not working.

This came from my host....
Also, please make sure you are using port 143 for IMAP and port 587 for SMTP.
If you have SSL enabled, then use port 993 for IMAP and port 465 for SMTP in your advanced settings.

Assuming you are using Apple's Mail app...

Go to Mail's Preferences...
Click on the account in the sidebar and select the "Server Settings" tab on the right. This will give you the incoming settings directly.

For the outgoing settings click on the pulldown next to "Account:" under "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)"
In the resulting dialog box click on "Edit SMTP Server List..." and the port setting will be displayed.

As you can see from your screen shots (thanks for that, it really helps!), you have “automatically manage” checked for both IMAP and SMTP settings. You will need to UNCHECK those, and then click “Advanced IMAP settings” and “Edit SMTP server list” in order to verify/correct port numbers.

I am now having online/offline issues. How do I get the account to stay online.

Thanks
Graham

Without knowing what other settings you have tampered with, it’s impossible to say why the account is offline. This sort of issue is usually caused by incorrectly putting in the signin information, or changing other settings so that the server can’t log you in anymore.
