Email returns to inbox on its own...

Has anyone else has this strange thing - I selected about 7 emails from the same source dragged them to a 'storage ' mailbox, and then a few seconds later they re-appeared in my inbox? OSX 10.15.7. late 2015 Macbook Pro. Also I seem to recall some time ago, I had moved some email, dragging it as above, and it remained visible in the inbox, but was greyed out...

IMAP Chas. I’ve discovered something! Initially I was dragging email into a folder which has a subfolder of the same name (somehow). as an experimen, I first opened the top folder, exposing the sub, and then dropped into there, the emails stayed put. It was strange, though, because previously it would take about 30 seconds for the moved emails to return to the inbox, having apparently been dragged and dropped.
