iMovie

It's been a while since I worked with iMovie, but it appears you have the "Ken Burns Effect" turned on for that photo (or all photos).

You can turn this off on a photo-by-photo basis by selecting the photo that you have dropped into the video, and choosing the "crop" feature. In the latest iMovie, you'll note that "Ken Burns" is chosen (it's the black option among the other gray options, "Crop to Fit" and "Fit"). Simply select "Fit" instead, and your photos will no longer move or crop anything off.

I'm attaching a (resized) photo that shows what I'm talking about. If you're using an older version of iMovie, yours might look a bit different, but the principle is the same.

Dick, it is really unclear here what you are wanting - e.g. which picture you want to end up with in iMovie. From reading your listserv post I think the big issue now is that the picture "grows". That is unclear but is there a possibility you have the Ken Burns effect turned on by default? Or perhaps "crop to fill"

Here is a quick movie I have thrown together with some random video clips and a few photos.

With a photo selected in the timeline the Ken Burns effect is found starting from the crop tool - red arrow.

Then click on Ken Burns and a starting point and end point for the Ken Burns effect can be defined. Perhaps look here and see if that is what is changing your photo and turn it off. (Click on "Fit")

What to do with a completed iMovie project?
I looked at "Theatre" and have no idea what that is. Nor does "Help"!{/quote]

I'd like to burn it to a DVD of the best quality (it was taken with an iPad Air) … and save it as a QuickTime movie.

Save it as a file then, in MP4 or whatever format you prefer. You can then drop that MP4 into the free program "Burn" (download from MacUpdate) and it will create a DVD.

Yes, and that disc should be playable in most "regular" DVD players as well. Congrats.
