Learn wifi password of a site logged into?

Our iOS devices (and Macs too for that matter) are wonderfully convenient when moving from one wifi network to another.

Once you have put in the password for a locked network once, when you revisit that same network it just picks up the network and lets you back on without needing the password again.

Occasionally when I am somewhere where I had previously logged in with the password, someone I am with will ask what the password is for that network. (eg. at the Sidney or other SIG) I haven't found a way to go back in and display the password being used so I can help the person I am with.

Is this possible?

Yes. The information would be stored in your Keychain, so you would use the Keychain Access app to find it. It would be listed as an Airport Network password, and you'll have to provide your admin password when prompted in order to see it.

Thanks Chas, I looked in Keychain Access on my wife's Air (which I know has been on various wifi networks other than our own) and couldn't spot anything meaningful (to me). But with your description ("Airport Network password") I will go back and have another look.

But I can't even recall a Keychain Access App on our iOS devices. Perhaps I have to go grab that from the App Store?

I had another look and can find no hint of previous wifi networks visited with our Air, in Keychain Access and no sign of a Keychain Access App on our iOS devices.

In iOS, under Settings, Safari, passwords you can access passwords for web sites. I am not aware of any way to find the login passwords for wifi networks
The app, Wifi Map, lists the passwords for many public networks such as coffee shops.

Yes, keeping track of web site passwords hasn't been an issue - I use 1Password. But it is trying to relearn the wifi password that I may have entered a year or more ago on a particular network to tell a family member with me who has another iDevice - that is the trick.

I have been wondering if it was my failure to allow keychain access to store such information (if it did, indeed, prompt me at my original login to such a site.) The next time I visit a "new" wifi network and put in a password that someone has supplied to me, I will pay strict attention and see if keychain access wants to store it.
